The Inspiration
Inspired by the plastic richness, joyful colours and romantic spirit of the jewels created by the family business between 1820 and 1830, Laure Isabelle Mellerio, artistic director and president of jeweller Mellerio, is adding an azur version to the pieces created last year. During the Restoration, Maison Mellerio, which had just moved to rue de la Paix - thereby initiating a movement that was to make Place Vendôme the epicentre of French haute joaillerie - seduced all the courts of Europe and the most illustrious families of the aristocracy with its delicate jewelry that featured a wide variety of fine gemstones - citrines, aquamarines, amethysts - set in gold that had been worked, engraved and chiselled with care using venerable goldsmithing techniques, mastered to perfection for several centuries by the Mellerio family, who have been working in Paris since 1613.
The High Jewelry Necklace Pierreries Blue
In addition to the colourful jewellery already created, inspired by the romantic jewelry of its heritage, this spring sees the addition of a fresh, invigorating cerulean version. Each selected stone plays its own bluish note in a chromatic score where sea and sky merge, offering vivacity and serenity. The soft blue or more vivid blue of blue topaz evokes the unique, ever-changing sky, the vivid blue of the apatites illustrates the southern seas, while the milky aquamarines bring to mind the freshness of stream water with their frosty blue of the Alpine glaciers that the Mellerios constantly crossed on their way from Craveggia in northern Italy - their town of origin - to Paris, their city of adoption. Finally, all these gems are delicately enhanced by the contrast of the precious metal, subtly shaded from yellow to pink to green, a plant lace reminding us that Mellerio was also the great jeweller of naturalism. This new azur version joins the serenity of purple amethysts shaded with pink, the generous charm of prasiolite in a vast range of green shades, the solar fires of citrine whose fiery orange hues or citrus freshness evoke the most beautiful façades found in Italian architecture. Depicting the purity of a river sparkling with light, an ornamental set contains a myriad of rutilated quartz crystals, with golden needle inclusions that seem to capture the sun’s ray.
